The Shenzhen Techno Science and Technology Company will be working with Freescale Semiconductor (FSL) to provide the multimedia applications processor for the first portable media player introduced by a domestic Chinese OEM.
The Techno PMP-10S and PMP-30S portable media players use Freescale's i.MX21 multimedia applications processor to put video, music and pictures into the palms of consumers' hands.
One of the most rapidly expanding mobile entertainment market segments is the PMP space. According to a 2005 IDC report, the PMP market will grow to $2.4 billion by 2009. OEMs are moving aggressively to capture the lion's share of this market by rolling out innovative PMP products with a variety of multimedia capabilities.
Freescale's i.MX21 processor gives OEMs a high degree of adaptability for feature enhancement. The i.MX21 processor affords Techno the design freedom to add new capabilities such as flash drive, mobile TV or GPS to its next generation PMP devices. Thus, Techno can upgrade with minimal requirements for redevelopment, cutting time to market and design costs.
Techno introduced the PMP-10S at this year's 10th International IC-China Conference & Exhibition in Shenzhen. The Techno PMP-10S features a 3.6" TFT color LCD screen that delivers a rich video experience that lasts up to four hours, or two feature films, on one battery charge. The Techno PMP-10S provides a number of integrated media options including a 20G hard disk drive, 2.0 megapixel (MP) digital camera, digital camcorder, display screen, TV out, voice recording and Windows Media Player.
