In response to the frequent loss of users' ADSL accounts through phishing, Beijing Netcom has launched an educational campaign to prevent further loss of ADSL accounts.
Beijing Netcom suggests users report to its service department and alter their passwords when they believe their ADSL account has been stolen. Netcom is making announcements through local media to let users know how best to protect themselves.
Netcom says consumers should upgrade their computer operating systems and anti-virus software, and install firewalls to defend themselves from attacks that can can steal passwords and personal data. The company also urges users not to respond to phishing wireless short messages or phishing emails that claim to be Beijing Netcom and ask for a user's password and personal data.
