Hong Kong media report that Haier is considering acquiring South Korea's Trigem.
Luo Qingqi, a senior home appliance observer in Qingdao, believes the acquisition has become the best option for Haier to realize its internationalization, saying this has been frequently indicated by Haier's top management in their speeches.
At the end of last year, Haier planned to spend CNY1.2 billion to acquire Maytag, the second largest home appliance provider in the United States, but that bid ended in failure.
Trigem is the second biggest computer maker in South Korea following Samsung. It was taken over by the court in May last year because of financial problems.
It is believed that this acquisition, once successful, will make Haier much more competitive in the PC field in China.
