Lenovo Mobile has set up a new mobile phone production base in Xiamen in order to reach its goal of seizing 10% of the market share and ranking as one of the top three mobile phone manufacturers in China by the end of this year.
Bill Amelio, CEO of Lenovo, announced that the new production base will produce 15 million to 30 million mobile phones each year and become one of the top mobile phone manufacturing bases in the world.
Located in the Xiamen Huoju High Technology Park, Lenovo's new production base features more than 80000 square meters in space and consists of development, research, production, logistics, sales and after-sales service areas.
Apart from enlarging the production scale, Lenovo has also introduced suppliers into the industrial park in order to lower purchase costs. According to Liu Zhijun, general manager of Lenovo Mobile, the company has signed about 20 suppliers for the new production base. Liu also disclosed to local media that the production base has been constructed with investment from the local government of Xiamen.
Lenovo's new base is capable of making 3G mobile phones.
