Developed by Tsinghua University, UTI has been pushed forward by Unitend Technologies Inc., a company backed by Tsinghua University. Wang Biaotuo, deputy general manager of Unitend, told local media that a number of Chinese mainstream TV manufacturers, including TCL, Konka, Skyworth, Hisense, Haier and Xoceco, have launched TV sets with UTI interfaces, and operators in more than 20 cities where the overall conversion of digital TV signal has been completed are testing and selling UTI cards.

Wang Xingjun, a professor at Tsinghua University and leader of MII's Machine Card Separation UTI Standard team, said that compared with the first standard of PCMCIA, UTI features a faster speed and wider applicability, and as a self-innovated Chinese standard, it will play a positive role in the industrialization of set-top box TVs.
