Chairman of China Mobile Wang Jianzhou says that the company is negotiating with three major Taiwanese telecommunications operators to launch a roaming service.
Wang told local media that China Mobile is currently discussing with Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, and Far Eastone Telecommunications on future cooperative agreements. He said while attending the current CPPCC meeting last week in Beijing that China Mobile will carry out closer cooperation with Taiwanese telecommunications operators to improve the cross-strait mobile communications services.
Wang added that China Mobile also hopes to cooperate with Taiwanese mobile phone manufacturers to jointly develop mobile terminals.
Zhang Chunjiang, vice president of China Mobile, also disclosed to local media that affected by the global financial crisis, China Mobile's traffic has been declining since the fourth quarter of 2008 and the situation will last for some time. However, the company is not stopping its development work. It will cooperate with foreign companies such as Nokia to jointly develop 3G mobile phones as well as making CNY58.8 billion investments in its 3G network this year to expand the coverage of its 3G network to 300 Chinese cities before the end of 2009.
