Chinese consumer electronics retailer Gome has started accepting reservations for the Apple iPhone 5 at over 1,700 retail stores in China.
However, the detailed launch date of iPhone 5 has not been decided, and it mainly depends on the launch schedule of Apple and the related Chinese telecom operators.
According to Gome, the company provides two methods to book this new smartphone. Consumers can directly go to Gome stores and pay the deposit. When the products arrive, the stores will call these consumers, who can then complete the remaining payment. In addition, consumers can call Gome's call center to make the booking. In this way, they need to leave their names and contacts and do not need to pay any deposit. Gome's customer service staff will contact these consumers when the iPhone 5 is available.
At present, Gome only accepts bookings of contracted iPhone 5 products, which will be operated by China Unicom and China Telecom. There is no information when or if China Mobile will introduce the iPhone 5.
Tim Cook, chief executive officer of Apple, previously announced that Apple's iPhone 5 will be launched in mainland China in December 2012. So far, Apple's Chinese official website has not opened booking of iPhone 5 without binding contracts yet.
