Chinese Internet video provider Letv announced its entry into the Indian market and the company will start selling its Le Max and Le 1s smartphones in this marketplace.
In addition, Letv announced the appointment of Atul Jain, former senior vice president of Samsung, as Letv's chief operating officer in India.
Letv held a launch meeting in Kingdom of Dreams, Gurgaon, during which the company debuted its Le Max and Le 1s in India. The two products will be available on the Indian e-commerce platform Flipkart. Chinese mobile phone rival Xiaomi recently ended its relationship with Flipkart.
Letv plans to establish a research and development center in Bangalore in 2016. With about 1,000 employees, the businesses of this R&D center will cover super TVs, phones, accessories, and cloud computing.
Moreover, Letv announced a content project for India. The Chinese company announced that they have reached a strategic content deal with Indian film company Eros. They also will work together with YuppTV to provide 250 live channels in 12 languages, covering entertainment, news, film, music, parents and children, lifestyle, and religion.
