Dutch semiconductor device giant ASML Holdings NV has agreed to acquire its Taiwanese competitor Hermes Microvision for about NTD100 billion, which is about USD3.1 billion, aiming to enhance its high-tech services to semiconductor manufacturers.
The two parties jointly announced the deal while industrial participants like TSMC are seeking to develop advanced processes to respond to the demands of consumer electronics manufacturers. TSMC is a world-leading wafer foundry and it is a client of ASML.
ASML and Hermes Microvision said in a statement that this transaction will not only further integrate the technologies of the two parties, but also will enrich their product portfolio and accelerate product development.
The two companies said that ASML's acquisition of Hermes Microvision will be partially realized through the issuance of about EUR1.5 billion bonds.
