To win Beijing’s favor, Amazon decided to comply with the Communist superpower’s request and removed all reviews and comments on Si Jinping’s book from its Chinese version of the online store. “Problems with ratings below five stars were problematic,” one of two sources familiar with the situation said, adding that the Beijing request was triggered by negative reviews. Amazon’s rating system is only five-star, so China wanted to recognize only the highest rating.
