People were heartbroken after an "icon" from one of the city's oldest Chinese restaurants died. Dog MeiMei was often seen sitting outside Yuet Ben on Upper Duke Street – her owner's restaurant. People in the city centre would often take a moment to stroke and say hello to the Chow Chow. Owner Terry Lim broke the news on social media that MeiMei died at 5.25pm on November 17, 2022 aged 13.
