Oriental Rise Holdings Limited, a prominent tea supplier in mainland China, has partnered with Shandong Yiyang Zhongji New Energy Co., Ltd. to investigate the incorporation of solar photovoltaic systems in the company's tea plantation bases. This collaboration aims to combine agriculture with renewable energy infrastructure, a concept known as 'agro-photovoltaic' development, allowing for simultaneous solar power generation and agricultural activities.
The strategic cooperation agreement outlines Zhongji New Energy's plan to implement distributed solar photovoltaic systems in selected areas of Oriental Rise's tea plantations. The project, with an estimated capacity of around 50 megawatts and an investment of approximately RMB165 million, is poised to utilize unused plantation spaces for generating renewable electricity while maintaining tea cultivation.
China's emphasis on renewable energy integration in agricultural settings, particularly through solar projects on farmland, aligns with Oriental Rise's vision of unlocking additional economic value from its existing assets. By fusing renewable energy infrastructure with its tea plantation operations, the company not only enhances operational efficiency but also explores value-creation opportunities around its core agricultural assets.
Mr. Dezhi Liu, CEO of Oriental Rise, affirmed the significance of integrating renewable energy within their tea gardens in Zherong County. He emphasized the initiative as a positive step towards bolstering long-term sustainability and maximizing the agricultural infrastructure's utility, all while staying committed to tea production and innovation.
The cooperation agreement establishes a strategic framework for the project evaluation, subject to regulatory approvals, technical assessments, and potential definitive agreements in the future. This initiative signifies Oriental Rise's dedication to sustainable practices and operational enhancement through innovative collaborations in the renewable energy sector.
