Speaking at the World AI Conference in Shanghai on Saturday, Assistant Chinese Foreign Minister Liu Bin rejected the claims without directly naming the United States. Liu said, "Some countries hype up distillation. This is misguided and counterproductive." His comments also followed Chinese President Xi Jinping’s appeal for greater international cooperation in AI. On Friday, Xi said AI should not be controlled by any individual country and encouraged a more open approach to technology development. He stated, “AI development should not be a solo performance by a single country.”
