China has officially inaugurated its first open commercial space telemetry, tracking, and control (TT&C) shared platform in Beijing's Yizhuang district, completing an integrated industrial cluster designed to streamline satellite and launch operations from a single municipal command hub.
The Beijing Rocket Street Commercial Space Intelligent TT&C Center, constructed by state-aligned firm Aerospace Long March Rocket Technology Co., Ltd., recently conducted full-phase tracking for local rocket launch and satellite missions. Developed as a primary common service platform within the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area, the facility integrates artificial intelligence models, cloud computing, and big data to support an integrated "satellite-rocket-launchpad-application-management" architecture.
Equipped to cover low-Earth orbit, geostationary orbit, and cislunar space, the center is hailed in local Chinese media and possesses an annual operational capacity to handle at least 200 commercial rocket launches or recoveries and provide continuous TT&C services for over 5,000 commercial satellites. By acting as a "shared command center," the platform allows private space startups to eliminate redundant investments in proprietary ground station infrastructure, completing a localized industrial loop encompassing rocket and satellite manufacturing, launch services, orbital tracking, and downstream data processing.
Located approximately 16 kilometers southeast of Zhongnanhai in Beijing's outer suburban belt, Yizhuang district borders the South Fifth Ring Road. The district is anchored by the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (Beijing E-Town), serving as Beijing's only national-level economic and technological development zone. It acts as a vital engine for China's strategic high-tech industries, driving major advanced manufacturing clusters in commercial spaceflight, robotics, integrated circuits, autonomous driving, and biotechnology.
It is important to note that centralized, shared commercial TT&C infrastructure carries substantial dual-use military implications in China. In high-contingency or wartime scenarios, consolidated commercial tracking hubs provide instantaneous surge capacity for space situational awareness, orbital anomaly detection, and rapid constellation maneuvers. China’s strategy of embedding shared data nodes into civil aerospace hubs ensures that private communications and remote-sensing satellite fleets can be mobilized and coordinated smoothly within broader national defense communication networks.
This centralized approach presents a distinct operational contrast to the strategy employed by the U.S. Space Force. While USSF Space Delta 6 maintains the military's dedicated Satellite Control Network (SCN), which is a globally distributed array of military tracking stations currently facing high utilization and modernization demands, the Pentagon relies heavily on commercial ground-station-as-a-service (GSaaS) vendors and its Commercial Space Office (COMSO) to augment military tracking capacity. In contrast, China’s "Rocket Street" model merges state-backed industrial planning directly with commercial ground control, establishing a unified, municipally hosted command node for its rapidly expanding low-Earth orbit megaconstellations.
