Tencent Holdings Ltd. will officially terminate the mainland Chinese operations for Ubisoft Entertainment SA's tactical open-world shooter The Division 2 on Dec. 14, ending the title’s local run just three years after its domestic launch.
In an operational statement released Monday, the game's local publishing team cited corporate strategy realignments for the closure, which was decided following mutual negotiations with developer Ubisoft. Tencent suspended new player registrations and in-game currency purchases effective 11:00 a.m. local time on Oct. 12. Game servers, official portals, and login systems are scheduled to shut down permanently on Dec. 14, followed by the closure of dedicated community forums and customer support channels on Dec. 22.
Co-developed by Ubisoft Massive and Ubisoft Shanghai, the AAA third-person shooter officially debuted in mainland China under Tencent's publishing network in November 2023.
To resolve unspent paid virtual currency and active subscription passes, Tencent launched a compensation program allowing registered users to convert remaining account balances into virtual item packages across its flagship gaming portfolio. Eligible players can claim digital bundles in popular Tencent titles including Honor of Kings, Peacekeeper Elite, VALORANT, CrossFire, and Battle for the Golden Spatula, with package values scaled up to 500 yuan ($70) per balance tier.
