The 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Open Source Competition concluded its global finals and annual summit in Hangzhou on Sept. 23, highlighting breakthroughs in software intelligent agents, scientific research, and physical robotics. Operating under the theme of open collaboration, the competition attracted more than 14,000 developers from 91 countries and regions, culminating in 70 finalist teams competing at the Hangzhou Yungu Center across four main technology tracks.
Team ExpLoop Lab earned the tournament's 1 million yuan grand prize for its open-source de novo mirror peptide design algorithm, MirrorPeptidizer, which lowers computational barriers in biomedical research. Individual category winners included DataFlow-Agent for intelligent data governance, Zhilian Agent for commercial aerospace verification, MD Transformer for molecular dynamics, GOLION for dual-arm robotics manipulation, and the Zhixun Lynx system for industrial inspection.
In the Embodied Future track, Hangzhou robotics firm Deep Robotics co-hosted an all-terrain industrial park patrol challenge featuring its Lynx S10 wheeled-legged robot platform. Competitors navigated real-world obstacles including continuous staircases, elevated platforms, and uneven surfaces. A student team from the Chongqing University Bionic Quadruped Laboratory captured first place in the patrol division, while independent developer Su Bo took second place, and Team GOAI LAI, a joint initiative from Columbia University and Tsinghua University, placed third.
The event gathered prominent academic figures, international open-source leaders, and technology executives. Key speakers and award presenters included Tsinghua University Professor Wang Yu, Agentic AI Foundation Executive Director Mazan Gilbert, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence Group Vice President Tang Hong, United Nations Global Goals Ambassador Lumbi Mlambo, ModelScope Community Lead Shi Hongzhu, Open Intelligence LLC Managing Partner Tae-Wan Yoon, China Electronics Chief Scientist Wu Qingbo, XNode Venture Partner Mason, Open Source China Chairman Ma Yue, and Tsinghua University Brain and Intelligence Lab Chief Researcher Carlo Vittorio Cannistraci. Additional honors were presented by Anolis Community Chairman Ma Tao, Ginkgo Valley Capital Chairman Chen Xiangming, WhaleSight CEO Guo Wei, and Vision Plus Capital Partner Lang Tao.
Held alongside the finals, the weeklong GOAI Open Source Week featured developer hackathons, technical meetups, and investor matchmaking sessions to connect early-stage artificial intelligence projects with industrial partners and venture capital. Backed by municipal foundations and industry partners, the event underscored Hangzhou's strategic push to serve as an international hub for open-source AI development and commercial deployment.
