Lenovo To Launch Tablet In India Before Year-end

Chinese PC and electronics company Lenovo has announced that to further expand its market share, it plans to launch tablet computer products in India before the end of 2011.

Lenovo launched three types of tablet computers in July 201, including the IdeaPad Tablet K1 designed for individual consumers; ThinkPad Tablet for business users; and IdeaPad Tablet P1 for family and office use.

According to Amar Babu, general manager for Lenovo India, the company is trying to gain licensea from the Indian government for the sale of tablet computers in local markets. At present, Apple's iPad and Samsung's Galaxy Tab have already been launched in the Indian market.

The starting price of Lenovo's tablets is reportedly USD499, which is the same as iPad. Babu said the tablets sold in India will have the similar prices.

Statistics from the market research firm IDC show that Lenovo's market share in India is 10.8%. Lenovo is increasing its investment in India and plans to raise the market share to between 15% and 17%, so as to become the leading PC manufacturer in the market, said Babu. During the second quarter of 2011, Lenovo's market share in India increased by 3.6 percentage points and Babu expects the similar growth rate in the third quarter.

Promote by the development of 3G services, India's Internet popularizing rate is rapidly increasing. By estimation, there are about 80 million to 100 million netizens in India.
