Top Chinese Official Makes 3G Pledge

Wang Xudong, chief of the Ministry of Information Industry (MII), said yesterday at the National Information Industry Work Conference, that China will continue making polices regarding 3G technology, service, cost, supervision and frequency allocations next year so as to promote the healthy and rapid development of the third generation mobile communications.

Wang Xudong reiterated vice minister Xi Guohua's earlier remarks that China has already had the necessary conditions for developing 3G.

He also said that the telecom departments should combine 3G development with telecom reform, competition structure optimization, policy improvement and industrialization of intellectual property right.

Wang Xudong also reminded the attendees that the operational enterprises of 3G should be full prepared in every aspects to ensure the broadband wireless mobile communications technology can provide quality and excellent service for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
