Chinese gaming market revenue falls for the first time in 14 years

In January-June 2022, the Chinese gaming market earned ¥147.7 billion ($21.8 billion), declining by 1.8% year-on-year. This drop was the first since 2008, since the China Association of Audio Video and Digital Publishing Houses began publishing data on the local market. The fall in revenue is attributed to the increased control of the Chinese authorities over video games. In the domestic market, the revenue of Chinese game companies fell by 4.25% to ¥124.5 billion ($18.4 billion), while in the overseas market it grew by 6.16% to almost $9 billion.
