How did vaping become so popular? But it was in the US where vaping first gained serious momentum. There, the first e-cigarette companies came on the market about 2005, but rather than being primarily used by patients trying to quit smoking (as they had been intended for), vaping exploded in popularity among young people, many of whom had never even touched a cigarette. This was thanks to the rise in several vape start-ups that designed sleek-looking vape pens and marketed their products using young models.
