China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) and Enventure Global Technology have successfully installed the first Solid Expandable Tubular (SET) System in China.
The cooperative effort resulted in the installation of a 4-1/4 in. (107.95 mm) Openhole Liner (OHL) inside 5-1/2 in. (139.7 mm) base casing, and expansion out a 100 ft. (30 m) long section milled in the base casing. The 1,306 ft. (398 m) OHL System was installed in a well in the Shengli field of Shandong Province, near the city of Dongying. The SET System, used as a production liner in this application, enables Sinopec to step out further into the reservoir, re-complete the well and re-start production from the oil reservoir with a larger hole size than conventional oilfield technology could provide.
"The first application of SET Technology in China and the 200th SET installation are both important milestones for the entire Enventure team," said Robert Hinkel, Enventure president and chief executive officer. "Furthering East-West exchanges of high-level technology and having solid expandable tubular systems planned into wells are primary facets of Enventure's global expansion strategy. The project with Sinopec allowed us to accomplish both goals.
