The China Securities Regulatory Commission yesterday approved TCL's mobile unit to go public in Hong Kong.

The unit, TCL International Holding, is the Chinese consumer-electronics makers' mobile handset unit.

The company, TCL Communication Technology, is a Cayman Islands corporation and the ultimate decision to have the company place public shares is still subject to the decision of a shareholders' meeting between TCL International and the Hong Kong Exchange.
