Fujitsu Quality Laboratory Limited this week announced the establishment of a subsidiary in Suzhou which will offer local quality and environmental assurance services to companies in the electronics sector.
Fujitsu Quality Laboratory (Suzhou) Limited, capitalized with USD1 million, plans RoHS compliance services on electrical and electronic components procured from China by Japanese assembled product manufacturers. The services will make the quality monitoring of Chinese-made electrical and electronic components more efficient and help boost product quality. In the future, the company also plans to offer quality-improvement consulting services to Chinese electronic product manufacturers, assisting them in raising the quality and reliability of their goods.
RoHS refers to the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Ellectronic Equipment Regulations 2008. These regulations implement European Union Directive 2002/95 which bans the placing on the European Union market of new electrical and electronic equipment containing more than agreed levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl and polybrominated diphenyl ether flame retardants.
Fujitsu Quality Laboratory was established in Kawasaki, Japan, in August 2006 and this new operation in Suzhou, a manufacturing center for Japanese-affiliated companies, will provide local quality and environmental monitoring of electrical and electronic components to Japanese companies. In the future, Fujitsu Quality Laboratory also plans to offer quality testing, failure analysis, quality-improvement consulting and training, material analysis, and environmental analysis to Chinese assembled product manufacturers.
Towards that end, Fujitsu Quality Laboratory signed an agreement in September 2008 with the Wuxi Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, a mandatory inspection government agency charged with raising quality among Chinese manufacturers, and the Mechanical and Electrical Product Testing Center of Jiangsu Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, to establish a joint testing lab. The lab will be designed to help all Chinese electrical and electronic components manufacturers, including those affiliated with Japanese companies, to improve their quality and reliability.
