Lenovo Teams With Kopin For Augmented Reality Commercial Development

Lenovo Capital and Incubator Group will cooperate with American wearable technology company Kopin to set up a new company.

This new venture was announced at CES and aims to jointly develop augmented reality smart wearable industry solutions and expand the global AR commercial use market.

Based on the cooperation between the companies, Kopin will invest technologies and capital to provide a whole set of industrial smart glasses solutions, including the latest miniature displays, optics, software, and Whisper voice chip technologies. The two parties will work together to promote the development of their joint venture to expand its leading advantages in the global AR market.

Financial terms of the deal were not announced.

At the same time, Lenovo Capital and Incubator Group displayed its AR smart glasses named "new glass C200" during CES 2017.

Lenovo launched the first-generation AR smart glasses new glass C100 in 2014. This device can be applied in many industries such as tourism, medical sector, industrial maintenance, and security.

He Zhiqiang, president of Lenovo Capital and Incubator Group, said that following PC Internet and mobile Internet, AR/VR will become the next-generation technology to change the world. It is also an important investment direction for Lenovo Capital and Incubator Group in the future. They attach great importance to the cooperation with Kopin and they believe this model can further open the global AR industrial application channel to bring supreme products and services to users.

Lenovo Capital and Incubator Group was formed in May 2016 to integrate Lenovo's global resources, enhance its Internet services and intelligence ecosystem via investments and foster innovation within and outside of Lenovo. LCIG said at the time that it would invest in core-technology and Internet related areas globally, investing USD500 million initially in projects through the Lenovo Capital Phase II Investment Fund.
