China’s IT authority has ordered the removal of 96 apps due to issues in relation to the infringement of user rights, highlighting problems with software development kits (SDK) provided by tech giants ByteDance and Tencent. On 15 October the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) ordered the removal of a total of 96 apps from sale, following inspections which discovered that they had “failed to complete rectifications on schedule.” According to the MIIT directive the inspections discovered that ByteDance’s “Chuanshajia” SDK, Tencent’s “Youlianghui” SDK and Kuaishou’s advertising SDK was key sources of problems, accounting for 37.4%, 29.9% and 8.0%...
