NetEase Founder William Ding Steps Down from Equity Stakes in Office and Digital Literature Units

NetEase Inc. founder William Ding has relinquished his personal equity holdings in two onshore entities managing the Chinese technology giant's enterprise office and digital literature operations, official corporate filings showed Tuesday.

According to registration records updated on enterprise database Tianyancha, Ding, whose Chinese name is Ding Lei, exited his 99 percent equity stake in Hangzhou NetEase Zhuyou Technology Co., Ltd. The subsidiary, established in November 2020 with a registered capital of 10 million yuan ($1.4 million), operates NetEase Lingxi Office, an enterprise email and office collaboration platform. Following the adjustment, company executive Li Jiawen holds a 99 percent stake, while newly added shareholder Ning Haina holds the remaining 1 percent.

In a concurrent restructuring, Ding also stepped down as principal shareholder of Hangzhou NetEase Literature Technology Co., Ltd., transferring his 99 percent stake to legal representative Fan Shaoqing. Fan now serves as the entity's actual controller with a 99 percent holding, while new shareholder Weng Jiaqi holds 1 percent. Founded in April 2020 with a registered capital of 10 million yuan ($1.4 million), the literature unit handles online publishing, digital culture operations, and internet information distribution.

The equity transfers reflect a broader routine practice among Chinese technology conglomerates to simplify domestic ownership structures and delegate registered shareholder status of subsidiary entities to operational executives. The legal adjustments streamline administrative approvals and corporate governance while maintaining the underlying management structure of the parent company's core business units.
