Lenovo Net Profit Up 36% In Second Financial Quarter Of 2013

During Lenovo Group's second financial quarter ended September 30, 2013, the group's operating revenue increased by 13% year-on-year to USD9.8 billion, and its net profit increased by 36% year-on-year to USD220 million.

According to the company's report, Lenovo sold 29 million devices worldwide during the second financial quarter. The company was reportedly the world's largest PC supplier for two consecutive quarters. And its market share in the global PC market reached 17.7%, an increase of 2% compared with the same period last year.

In regards to the mobile Internet and digital home sector, including smartphone, smart TV and most tablet businesses of the group, Lenovo reported stable improvement in building profit. The operating revenue of MIDH products accounted for 15% of the total operating revenue of the group. The ratio was 8% in the same period of 2012 and was merely 4% two years ago.

In addition, Lenovo ranked the second in the world by comprehensive sales of PCs and tablets. It was also the world's third largest smart devices maker, including smartphones, tablets and PCs, with a year-on-year sales increase of 36%. Meanwhile, it was the world's fourth largest smartphone supplier, with a year-on-year sales increase of 78%.

Yang Yuanqing, chairman and chief executive officer of Lenovo Group, said that for the future market development, Lenovo holds an optimistic attitude. Stimulated by enterprise demands and the recovery of the domestic Chinese market, the PC market will also recover. Meanwhile, tablets are transforming to the mainstream entry-level market and emerging market, which are areas from which Lenovo is good at extracting value.
