Chinese telecom equipment maker ZTE has announced that it has reached an agreement with Brazilian local enterprises to produce tablet computers in the country.

The news was disclosed by Hou Weigui, president of ZTE, while meeting with Dilma Rousseff, president of Brazil.

Hou told local media that ZTE has established close cooperation relationships with Brazilian local manufacturers. They will start making tablet computers in Brazil from August 2011 and these tablets will be sold in Brazil. Hou also revealed that ZTE has made an expansion plan in Brazil.

ZTE has already set up its plant in Brazil. In April 2011, the company promised to establish an industrial park in Hortolandia, Sao Paulo. Eliandro Avila, chief executive officer of ZTE's subsidiary in Brazil, said that their plant will be ZTE's base in Latin America and they will hire over 2,000 employees.

ZTE's operating revenue was CNY70.3 billion, which was about USD10.8 billion, in 2010.
