A new report has highlighted a critical threat to Europe's solar infrastructure posed by Chinese hackers. By exploiting hardware backdoors or deploying malicious updates to millions of inverters, Beijing could potentially trigger massive blackouts across Europe.
These inverters, described as the "electronic brain" of solar installations, are crucial for converting solar energy into usable electricity for the wider network. The report underlines that around 80% of Europe's new solar installations heavily rely on Chinese-made inverters, with companies like Huawei and Sungrow dominating the market and legally bound to assist China's intelligence services.
