NDRC To Check Illegal Telecom Charges

May 8, 2008
Editorial Staff

China's National Development and Reform Commission says it will conduct a special check on the charges of telecom and postal service across the country starting in May, with the focus given on illegal pricing and fraudulent activities.

The check, which is scheduled to end on August 30, will involve all enterprises that run basic telecom services, value-added services or postal services. These companies will be checked for the implementation of telecom and postal charges policies that went into effect on January 2007, but their major violations of pricing policies will be traced back to the previous year, according to NDRC.

The representative from NDRC says China's communications cost reform has now entered a critical period, so concerned departments at various levels should carefully organize the special check to promote the healthy development of the two industries and create a harmonious consumption environment. NDRC says that illegal pricing behaviors shall be severely punished and typical cases shall be appropriately exposed.
