Alcatel has been selected by Jiangsu Telecom, a subsidiary of China Telecom, to accelerate the delivery of high-value and profitable IP (Internet Protocol) services in Jiangsu Province.
The contract was won through Alcatel Shanghai Bell, Alcatel's flagship Chinese company. Under the contract, Alcatel will provide Jiangsu Telecom with the carrier-class Alcatel 7750 Service Router (SR) to build an IP backbone network in the province. The 7750 SR will also be deployed as a service-aware edge solution for building an IP metro network in Zhengjiang and Taizhou, two major cities in Jiangsu Province.
Upon completion of the project in June, Jiangsu Telecom will be able to offer advanced Internet and IP-based virtual private network (VPN) services with improved security and innovative operational features. This also enables the carrier to simultaneously maximize profit and expand its market opportunity.
The Alcatel 7750 SR is the industry's first IP/MPLS (MultiProtocol Label Switching) router designed and optimized for the delivery of advanced VPN services. With a software and hardware architecture designed for efficient delivery of service level agreement based services, the Service Router functions as both a powerful Internet router and a flexible service delivery platform.
